JRS Projects Featured in CSLA LandADAPT Green Roof Case Study

JRS is featured in the CSLA’s recent LandADAPT Case Study on the City of Toronto’s Green Roof Bylaw!

Green roofs are critical tools in urban centers for strengthening stormwater management, reducing urban heat, improving biodiversity, and reducing energy used for cooling. They can also transform a bare rooftop into a vibrant amenity.

The Case Study highlights the role of landscape architects in translating the policy’s environmental goals into evidenced-based design standards. Projects such as 1 and 2 Old Mill Drive and Waterworks at 505 Richmond Street illustrate how green roof design can deliver environmental benefits while serving as social infrastructure for residents and community members. Both these JRS projects manage stormwater, increase habitat value, and provide spaces for residents to build community and engage with nature.

Though the Green Roof Bylaw was repealed in 2025, green roofs are still a vital tool for improving ecological resilience while creating comfortable outdoor spaces. With new green roof projects underway, we continue to push for these critical pieces of green infrastructure.
