We were thrilled to have the opportunity to rejuvenate and reinterpret the historical square at TD Centre Plaza that is inspired by the brilliant architect Mies Van der Rohe.

Reflecting on the harsh conditions of an urban park built among sky-high towers, and the environmental consciousness of current times, we re-introduced consistency by planting large beds of single-coloured annuals that complemented the lush green lawns. Van der Rohe’s preferred hue, yellow, is a major part of our planting design and can be seen throughout the landscape.

JR&Studio also worked alongside the project’s engineering firm to create a LEED report that outlined recommendations for increasing landscape efficiency thereby making the site eligible for LEED EB Certification. Our examination focused on improving the existing irrigation system and making appropriate recommendations for maintenance practices to ensure water conservation and long plant life. Elements designed through the master plan process continue to be constructed today as part of a long term improvement strategy for the Plaza.
