On Friday, September 29, JRS Principal Jessica Hutcheon will speak on the issues and lessons learned from two recent projects during a tour of downtown public spaces shaped by women in landscape architecture organized by Advancing Equity in Landscape Architecture (AELA). The 90-minute walk starts at 3:30 pm at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel Toronto Downtown (108 Chestnut St) following the closing remarks of the OALA Conference and is open to all.

Jessica will speak on the plaza at The Pinnacle on Adelaide, a vibrant and engaging POPS designed by Janet Rosenberg & Studio that transforms the corner of Adelaide and John into a dynamic public piazza. The plaza features a shallow water feature surrounded by cubes of polished Quebec granite, vertical light columns, and a striking piece of digital public art by Jennifer Marman + Daniel Borins. Across the street at PJ Condominiums, a second plaza by JRS – an inverse to the original POPS – features a soothing water feature spilling over stacked rectangular slabs of granite and matching cubes for sitting.

Together, the two plazas bring new vitality and energy to this reenergized strip, and will be key points along the entertainment district’s festival street once the John Street Revitalization project is complete.
