Nepean Point has been officially renamed Kìwekì Point

Nepean Point has been officially renamed Kìwekì Point! Kìwekì is an Algonquin word that means “returning to one’s homeland.” The Kichi Sibi (Ottawa River) has been an important place for Indigenous communities for thousands of years, and the renaming of this spectacular lookout was the result of discussions between the National Capital Commission (NCC) and the Algonquin Nation in the spirit of reconciliation.

JRS is currently leading the redevelopment of Kìwekì Point with universal accessibility, enhanced views, a diverse plant palette, a pedestrian bridge to connect to Major’s Hill Park, Whispering Point, and a compelling interpretation plan developed with the NCC and Algonquin Communities.
