Yorkdale Shopping Centre is the premiere shopping destination in the GTA and one of the most iconic retail destinations in Canada. The Yorkdale Shopping Centre Block Master Plan represents an opportunity to maintain the existing shopping centre in its entirety, while developing the surface parking lots around the mall into a pedestrian-friendly, mixed-use, high-rise community. The well-connected neighbourhood will feature a network of high-quality open spaces that live up to the excellence that has become associated with Yorkdale.
The 14+ hectare, crescent-shaped development features 19 new mixed-use towers and over 5,000 residential units, a mix of public spaces, privately-owned publicly accessible spaces (POPS), animated streetscapes, community amenities, retail, office, hotel and commercial spaces. With a focus on sustainability and resilient public realm, the master plan will dedicate 3.39 hectares of land – 24% of the total site area – to pedestrian-friendly open and green spaces with three new public parks and dynamic, programmable community spaces. Pathways, neighbourhood-focused promenades, underground parking, and retail-oriented high streets will be woven throughout the dynamic mixed-use site.
As Landscape Architect, JRS worked collaboratively with the team to create exceptional designs for the public realm, that gained the support of the City of Toronto.
