Aquavista is a mixed-use, sustainable residential project developed by Hines and Tridel on the waterfront in Toronto’s master-planned Bayside Community. Aquavista, completed in 2019,  is a single 12-storey tower with 340 condominium residences, 72 affordable housing residences, a large second-storey outdoor amenity space and 30,000 square feet of retail space.

Outstanding design was a principal objective of the project, both to support the sale of units in the luxury category and to fit appropriately in the Waterfront Toronto-designed public realm.  The landscape design was required to respond to the unique design of the building, a curving design by American architect Arquitectonica, that provides maximum views of Lake Ontario. JRS was awarded the work based on a design presented for Aquavista in a competition with three other Canadian and American landscape architects.

According to the client team, the JRS design best reflected the overall vision for the project developed by Hines, Tridel, and Arquitectonica.  Collaborative, responsive design was the principal characteristic for the project, given the number of stakeholders with design goals, including the clients, the design architects, the architect of record, Waterfront Toronto, and the City of Toronto. The project includes streetscapes, a large amenity terrace with an infinity pool, and a green roof. The project met TGS Tier 2 standards and is LEED Platinum certified.
