Todd Douglas on the winning design team for OAA’s Landscape Design Competition
Posted July 4, 2024
JRS Senior Associate Todd Douglas is part of the winning design team for the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) Landscape Design Competition!
The anonymous, juried competition invited design teams to revitalize the OAA’s Toronto headquarters and transform the property into a more “sustainable, accessible, artful, and welcoming space.” Team Chestnut, led by Nima Javidi and Behnaz Assadi of Ja Architecture Studio, collaborated with Todd and Civil Engineer MTE Consultants to develop The Grounding Meadow.
Their winning proposal takes a minimalist approach and allows water to run underneath the meadow, creating a more natural ecology on the site while accommodating stormwater to support and sustain the habitat. The project pays homage to Indigenous communities by incorporating plants of cultural significance, including a variety of perennials and grasses that will attract pollinators, wildlife, and birds.
Congratulations to Todd and Team Chestnut! More details here.
